My entrance to collegiate track and field was unorthodox to say the least. Coming out of high school, i fully planned on enlisting in the U.S. Navy, as I had done 3 years of Navy JROTC in high school, and I had no intentions of attending college. Due to personal reasons, I didn’t enlist, so I stayed home and worked a few jobs while competing in AAU track meets on the side. After a couple months of competition, I eventually broke 11 seconds in the 100-meter dash. I applied to Jackson State University in the Summer of 2025 to pursue Kinesiology, and I attempted to try out for the Track team as a walk on. Unbeknownst to me, i needed sickle cell test results to compete under the NCAA, so had to miss a year of competition to wait for next year’s tryouts. From that point on I dedicated all my free time toward training for the Fall 2026 tryouts, until the day arrived once more. I am now a member of the Jackson State Tigers Track and Field team.
